In 1969 Denis
Kitchen founded Kitchen Sink Press (KSP) and for 30 years
published many of the most prominent and innovative creators in the
comics field. Kitchen is no longer interested in running an operation
the size of KSP, but has established the new small press Denis Kitchen Publishing
Co. (DKP) to produce or package a handful of deserving quality
books annually.
Visit DKP for more
information and sneak previews of upcoming projects. DKP books can be
ordered from leading comics specialty shops and independent bookstores

DRAWING
COMICS
IS
EASY! BY ALEXA KITCHEN
Drawing Comics
is Easy! (Except When it's Hard!) is a
brand new hardcover book with rounded corners, created entirely by Alexa Kitchen when she was 7 years-old.
The 176 page book, with color throughout, is presumably
aimed at a peer audience of other children, but the idiosyncratic
How-To book will appeal to readers of any age, especially those
interested in cartooning, the creative process and the innocence of
youth.
Alexa, now all of
8, has already received considerable acclaim for her precocious
cartooning. She was interviewed in Comic Book Artist at 6,
featured in Comics Buyer's Guide, praised several times in Publishers
Weekly, caricatured in Print magazine and featured last
year in the Dark Horse anthology Sexy Chix with Joyce Carol
Oates among others. Accolades have come from creators as diverse as Will
Eisner, Neil Gaiman, Mark Schultz (who wrote the
Introduction to her new book), Patrick McDonnell and R.
Crumb.

THE
GRASSHOPPER
AND
THE ANT: Harvey
Kurtzman put a distinct Beatnik perspective
into
his
adaptation of the Æsop fable "The
Grasshopper
and
The Ant.," DKP's first book
project. The brilliant solo short story,
drawn in vibrant watercolor and ink, is one of Kurtzman's finest creations. The story
originally appeared in Esquire in 1960 at a greatly reduced size, making the panels
difficult to read. It remained a lost classic for over forty
years. Till now.
The pages in this
DKP edition are reproduced directly from the exquisite original artwork
and are published full-size. Each color panel is highlighted by a "spot
varnish" on matte opaque paper. In reality the work is truly being seen
for the first time. The introduction by Denis
Kitchen demonstrates that the story has strong autobiographical
elements: MAD-creator Kurtzman's legendary workaholic nature (The
Ant) and his flirtation with the '50s Beat Movement (The
Grasshopper) parallel the comic-tragic plot of this timeless tale.

MR.
NATURAL
POSTCARD
BOOK: Robert Crumb's most enduring character, Mr. Natural,
is
back on the scene in a square-bound Mr.
Natural
Postcard
Book
from Denis Kitchen Publishing, his second publishing effort. The book includes 24 different 4" x 6" color postcards. The lovable fly-by-night guru (or
is he a genuine mystic?) is depicted at his most profound
("Where will it all end?"), perplexed ("Sometimes he just sits
and stares"), pissed ("Ask a stupid question, get a stupid
answer!") and practical ("Get the Right Tool for the Job!").
Twenty-four images
were hand-selected and newly colored by Robert
Crumb for this great postcard collection! All are different --
no duplicates like many postcard collections. All feature Crumb's
most famous and enduring character! The 4" x 6" postcards are on heavy
cardstock
(not those cheap-o flimsy
cards you hate). As he
has done since the 1960s, cartoon mystic Mr. Natural provides
pithy
insights
and observations for various occasions and moods,
sometimes joined by devotee Flakey Foont and Devil Girl.
